Please see below for some of the routines and expectations we encourage in class. We would appreciate your support in promoting these and hope that you find this information helpful. We very much look forward to working in partnership with you this year!
The School Day:
8.45am: Children arrive at school. There will be a member of staff on both KS1 and KS2 gates from 8.45amthough we encourage children to come into school by themselves. If you arrive late (ie after 8.55am), children will need to come into school via the office. Any arrivals after this time will be marked ‘late’. Please do not arrive in school before 8.55am. Any messages can be left with the teacher on duty. Alternatively an appointment request can be made via the office.
10.30am: Morning break
12.20pm: Lunchtime
1.10pm: Afternoon lessons start
3.20pm: Home time! Children will come out along the footpath by themselves and through the small gate, to the right of the car park (not the main gates).
Reading
Children will read in school, independently, individually and within groups during our guided reading sessions. They will be set homework tasks linked to the text being read in school. We ask that children read for at least 15 minutes as part of their homework routine.
Homework
Please follow this link to another part of the school website with details of homework for all classes. Homework is designed to enable parents to share in their child’s learning. There is a homework club running in school, so please ask if this is something you are interested in.
Handwriting Children may use a Berol handwriting pen or blue friction pen. All children are encouraged to follow the school’s cursive script. It is also expected that children provide their own writing equipment in a pencil case (including glue stick). Pens, pencils and glue sticks are available to buy from the school office.
PE Kit
It is essential that children have their PE kit in school every day and they will be involved in 2 lessons each week. They require navy blue shorts and a white t-shirt with pumps for indoor activities and trainers for outdoor PE. In cold weather children will require navy tracksuit bottoms and a sweatshirt. PE kits should ideally be taken home and washed each week. We ask that all possessions are clearly named. Jewellery must not be worn, and this includes ear-rings; therefore children must be able to remove them independently. Long hair must be tied back.
Break time snacks
Children may bring in a mid-morning snack though we discourage sweets, chocolate or crisps. Snacks must be kept separate from their lunch boxes as it isn’t convenient for children to access their lunch boxes at break times. No snacks are to be shared with other children as there are a number of children with specific food allergies. No NUTS please!
All children need to have a water bottle with them – no glass please. School water bottles are available from the school office.
